On each shoulder
On each shoulder

We all fight demons, some outside but mostly within. Sometimes we can fight on our own. Sometimes the battle’s roar waits with bated breath for the next spark to ignite a flame.
But what about when you need someone else. You reach out for help. Maybe you want a guardian angel to sweep you up in its wings and shield you. A purification in the crucible of a connection to cleanse you of your own doubts.
Sometimes you get an angel, sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you get a demon. A terrible, snarling monster that makes the Old Ones quail. Fighting fire with fire will burn the whole house down, I guess you need ashes before you can start afresh. But you picked this monster, it’s yours, it will not bite the hand that feeds it. The devastation it wreaks is tempered by compassion.
When you see yourself as cursed maybe a demon is all you think you deserve. Lucifer was an angel once. Sometimes nice won’t cut it, sometimes you need to fight and the claws need to come out. You can fight but your heart is raw so your demon, with its scarred hide, will take the hits and rend and tear, so you don’t have to. Your demon and you, what a pair you make.
